The A.R. Smith Department of Chemistry at Appalachian State University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer, for the 2008-2009 academic year beginning August 15, 2008.
Qualifications for this position include: a Ph.D. in Chemistry and teaching experience in general chemistry courses. The successful candidate will teach 12 contact hours and is expected to provide instruction in the introductory level chemistry program (teach a lecture of General Chemistry and the corresponding laboratories) and possibly teach in other areas depending upon the training and background of the applicant. He/she will hold office hours for students; perform grading and other duties associated with teaching but no committee work.
The A.R. Smith Department of Chemistry (www.chemistry.appstate.edu) offers a BS degree in Chemistry, including the ACS Certified degree with concentrations in Marketing and Business, Pre-Professional and Paramedical, Environmental, Forensic Science, or Chemistry Secondary Education Licensure, and a BA in Chemistry. The department has 14 tenure-track faculty members and approximately 135 undergraduate majors.
